The Line Is Reconnected
Situation
Cloud met Donald and entered an unusually intensive three-week programming journey.
During the first week, they spent two hours together every day. Cloud learned Python and Swift, built things, experimented, and began to develop the feeling that programming was something he could actually do.
Then the learning was interrupted for weeks.
The line went quiet.
Two days ago, it was finally reconnected.
And today, Cloud met p5.js for the first time.
Not another lesson in Python.
Not another lesson in Swift.
A completely new programming language and environment.
Turning Point
The online p5.js editor did not work for Cloud because of the network environment.
“No problem,” Donald said. “We can set up a local p5.js environment.”
The first local launch failed too.
Safari showed the black canvas—but no white line.
For a moment, Donald's heart sped up.
Luckily, Cloud had Chrome installed.
Open With → Chrome.
The line appeared.
They were back.
The environment was alive.
And instead of taking over the keyboard, Donald handed the moment to the “experienced” programmer.
After all, Cloud had been programming for a whole month.
That was enough experience to earn a promotion. 😂
“Show me what you can do.”
Cloud drew a small 2D grid himself.
He knew the canvas.
He knew coordinates.
He knew how line() worked.
He knew how to turn a visual structure into code.
It was not sophisticated code.
It did not need to be.
It was evidence that the connection had not been lost.
Emergence
Then Donald opened another door.
“This amazing learning tool can do 3D.”
Cloud's first p5.js program had already introduced him to a new environment. Now the flat canvas became a three-dimensional coordinate space.
And Cloud began exploring.
A sphere.
A box.
A cylinder.
A cone.
A torus.
Three enormous coordinate axes.
He had only just met p5.js, yet when he saw the cylinder function, his response was immediate:
“A cylinder need 2 numbers, base and height.”
He was not learning programming from zero anymore.
He was carrying Python and Swift with him.
A new language had appeared, and he already knew how to think like a programmer inside it.
Learning
A broken learning journey does not necessarily mean a lost journey.
Cloud's weeks away from programming had interrupted his practice, but they had not erased what he had built during those first three weeks.
When the line was reconnected, something was still there.
He could enter a new programming environment and transfer ideas from one language to another.
He could look at a new function and reason about its parameters.
He could move from 2D coordinates to 3D coordinates.
And then, before the lesson ended, he had already found his next question:
“I want to try rotation.”
That question had to wait.
Cloud had an exam to prepare for the next day.
So he made his own decision:
“Maybe next time. We don't extend the class today because I need to prepare exams tomorrow.”
The rotation was waiting for him.
Theme
The line is reconnected.
Sometimes learning does not resume exactly where it stopped.
It resumes with a learner who has changed.
Cloud returned with Python and Swift behind him, a new curiosity about mathematics, and a growing willingness to explore.
The most important thing was not that he learned p5.js today.
It was that he discovered:
There is another world here.
And he wanted to see what was inside it.

A new programming language does not mean starting from zero. Knowledge can travel from one language to another.
